Why I Can't Let Go of My Classic Bike: The Art of Maintaining a Legend

In the world of motorcycles, some machines are built for utility, while others are built for the soul. For me, the Yamaha RX-King—famously known in Indonesia as the "King of the Road"—falls firmly into the latter.

​This isn't just a collection of metal and rubber; it’s a vessel of memories. The heart of this beast is its legendary 135cc 2-stroke engine. If you’ve ever heard one, you’ll know its distinctive, high-pitched "tring-tring" exhaust note—a sound that announces its presence long before it’s even in sight. To many, it’s noise, but to an enthusiast, it’s a mechanical symphony.

​A Legacy of Smoke and Speed

Back in its heyday, the RX-King earned its reputation for its raw power and unmatched acceleration. Riding it today in a world dominated by quiet, modern automatics is a sensory experience. You feel every vibration, you smell the faint scent of 2-stroke oil, and you feel an immediate connection to the road that modern bikes often lack.

​Touring and Brotherhood

Some of my fondest memories involve long-distance tours with this bike. There’s a unique sense of freedom in watching the miles tick away while knowing you’re riding a piece of history. But beyond the ride itself is the brotherhood. Owning an RX-King means being part of a massive, passionate community where a simple nod from another rider signifies a shared respect for a legend.

​The One I’ll Never Sell

People often ask why I still maintain a classic bike that requires more care and attention than a newer model. The answer is simple: you can't buy the history or the feeling this bike gives me. It has seen the best of my journeys, and despite the years passing by, its "King" status remains untouched in my garage.
